Your questions, answered
Everything you need to know before booking your tour
How far is Jacó from San José, and how long does the drive take?
Jacó is located approximately 100 kilometers southwest of San José, on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast. The drive takes around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic, following the scenic Route 27 highway through the mountains and down toward the coast. With Nativo Travels, your private bilingual guide picks you up directly at your hotel and handles all transportation — so you arrive relaxed and ready to explore.
Do I need surfing experience to join the surf lesson in Jacó?
No experience is needed. The surf lesson at Jacó Beach is designed for complete beginners, with local instructors who guide you through the basics on the sand before you hit the water. Jacó Beach offers consistent Pacific waves that are ideal for first-timers. If you have some prior surfing experience, instructors will adapt to your level so you can work on technique and catch more challenging waves.
What is El Miro viewpoint in Jacó, and why is it worth visiting?
El Miro is a hidden lookout point above Jacó Beach that offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the coastline, and the surrounding tropical mountains. The trail to El Miro passes through a mix of jungle vegetation, colorful street art on abandoned structures, and areas where you can spot wildlife including monkeys and scarlet macaws. It's one of Jacó's least-touristy spots and one of the most rewarding — especially in the afternoon when the light hits the ocean
Can I choose which activities to do on the Jacó Adventure Tour?
Yes — this is one of the few things that sets this tour apart. Because it's fully private, you decide how the day unfolds. The tour offers four activities: surfing at Jacó Beach, horseback riding, rock climbing, and a hike to El Miro viewpoint. Want a full day of adventure? Do all four. Prefer a lighter pace? Pick two activities and spend the rest of the afternoon on Jacó Beach — swim in the Pacific, walk the shoreline, grab lunch at a local spot, or just sit and watch the waves. Your guide works around your group, not the other way around.
What wildlife can I expect to see on the Jacó Adventure Day Tour?
The Jacó area sits within Costa Rica's Central Pacific biodiversity corridor, making wildlife sightings a regular part of the experience. On this tour, you may encounter scarlet macaws flying in pairs over the beach, howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys in the trees along the El Miro trail, toucans, iguanas, and various tropical birds. Sightings vary by season and time of day, but the afternoon hike to El Miro offers the best conditions for spotting wildlife in a natural, undisturbed setting.
