Overview
Begin your day above the clouds at Irazú Volcano National Park, the highest volcano in Costa Rica at 3,432 meters (11,260 ft). Explore its dramatic lunar landscape of ash plains, mineral-streaked slopes, and high-altitude vegetation. A short, easy walk leads you to panoramic viewpoints overlooking the main crater and Diego de la Haya crater.
Continue your journey to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the stunning Cachí Valley, where rolling green hills, coffee farms, and fresh mountain air create one of the most peaceful landscapes in the country.
From there, descend into the lush Orosi Valley to visit the historic Ruins of Ujarrás, featuring the beautifully preserved remains of a 17th-century colonial church surrounded by gardens and mountain views.
End the day in Cartago with a visit to the iconic Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, followed by a walk through the local hallways of Cartago’s central market, where you’ll experience authentic Costa Rican daily life, local flavors, and culture.
